Houston Plastic Surgery for Men
Men who seek to enhance their body through plastic surgery procedures should first consult with Dr. Fortes to determine the correct procedures based on their desired look.
Plastic surgery procedures available to men include:
Abdominal Etching
Abdominal etching gives men the "washboard" or "six-pack" look by combining liposuction with liposculpture to create subtle ripples in the abdominal area, allowing the underlying abdominal muscles to show greater detail. Fat is removed from the abdomen through a small hollow tube inserted through one or more tiny incisions.
Most incisions are hidden in the natural body creases of the body and leave very small scars. The procedure safely brings a typical male waist of 36-40 inches to 28-32 inches. However, this procedure is not a substitute for weight loss. Ideal candidates are of relatively normal weight with only isolated pockets of fat.
The surgery usually takes one to two hours and is performed under general anesthesia. Most patients return to work after about three to five days and can resume their workout routines after about seven days. Please contact Dr. Fortes for a consultation.
Gynecomastia and Breast Reduction for Men
Gynecomastia is the medical term for overdeveloped breasts in men. While one-third of all male teenagers experience breast enlargement, almost eighty percent of them will return to normal in three years or less.
The best candidates for male breast reduction surgery are men who are in good physical and psychological health. Dr. Fortes will perform an examination to determine the best treatment for you. If surgery is recommended, in most cases the breast tissue is removed through small incisions on or around the breast. With most surgeries, the correction can be completed in about one to two hours under local anesthesia.
Surgery may be performed as an outpatient. You can expect to return to work in three to four days, and you will want to avoid heavy exercise for two to three weeks following surgery.
Hair Replacement for Men
Hair loss in men is primarily attributed to a combination of hormones, aging and genetics.
Men who experience male pattern baldness are ideal candidates for hair replacement, especially if they are in good physical and psychological health.
The replacement procedure pulls existing hair from the back and sides of the head, and uses mini and micro grafts to fill in the thinning areas. Because of the nature of this procedure, good candidates should have dense hair growth at the back and sides of the head.
To begin the procedure, a small strip of hair is removed (usually from the back of the head) and then each hair follicle is dissected under magnification. Single, double and even triple hair grafts are placed several millimeters from each other in the balding area. Dr. Fortes also may choose to fill in-between the hair plugs at a later time with additional grafts. He will take great care in the harvesting and placing of the grafts to create the most natural look possible for you.
More dramatic results can be achieved by surgically reducing the balding area through a procedure called a scalp reduction. Factors for any procedure, such as hair texture and color, may affect the final result.
Most patients can return to work after this procedure in a few days and resume regular activities after a month. |
